Sometimes called “New York’s Lungs”, Central Park gives natives and visitors alike a chance to breathe easy, relaxing in a massive (843 acre!) green space and enjoying everything from birdwatching, to a ball game, to a night of free Shakespeare. But creating the park was an arduous, politically complex task and maintaining it has been no less of a challenge.
